The area known as the Jandía peninsula is remarkable for its impressive, expansive beaches, famous world-wide for their white sands. In this area, you can find sealife which is completely at home in sandy habitats such as stingray, sole, golden-spotted snake eel or garden eel.
Veril Grande
This is situated opposite the Punta de Matorral lighthouse and 200 metres from the Matorral. This contour interval is between 20 and 40 metres deep and has a sandy seabed. Among the sealife and in addition to those mentioned above, we can find black moray, cardinalfish, dusky grouper, parrotfish, arrow crab, among others.
Veril Chico
This contour interval can be found to the south of the Punta de Matorral lighthouse and like the Veril Grande, it has a sandy seabed, although it is as its name suggests smaller and shallower. It has a depth of between 15 and 35 metres.
Puerto de Morro Jable
As well as being a popular place for sports, Puerto de Morro Jable is also a lively commercial centre, and the departure point for passengers travelling between the islands. It is also famous for fishing, the activity from which the area made its living before the tourism boom took place, and which is still continuing. This area is 12 metres deep and further away from the port, there are depths of between 40 and more than 100 metres.
