There was a time (in the 15th century) when Islote surprised everyone with its sheer numbers of Mediterranean monk seals
(Monachus monachus) which used to gather here. None are left these days, but there are around 130 plant and animal species on the Isla de Lobos which must be respected and protected if we want to stop history repeating itself.
