Centre Route
Beginning at Caleta de Fuste, a tourist resort and marina with an 18th century fortress tower, go towards Puerto del Rosario and take the centre road through Casillas del Angel, Los Llanos de la Concepción and Valle de Santa Inés, villages lying on gentle slopes and with typical constructions which are perfectly adapted to the island's climate. A visit to the La Alcogida EcoMuseum in Tefia is a must, and this consists of a settlement of 7 houses which are typical of traditional Fuerteventuran architecture. The EcoMuseum recreates traditional rural life with craft, ranching, and agricultural activities taking place there.

Continuing along this road, you reach Betancuria which is surrounded in glorious history, with a number of monuments and buildings which are important in terms of the island's architecture; its 18th century Church-Cathedral of Santa María de Betancuria has three naves, and it is worth mentioning the white stone main facade, four-section tower, its altarpieces, the craftsmanship of the sacristy, the choir stalls, and the baptistry.

The San Diego Chapel, with two naves, in front of which is the "Cuevita de San Diego". Construction of the Franciscan monastery began in 1423 but today only its foundations and walls remain.

In the Museum of Sacred Art, the former Presbytery, it is worth mentioning a silver monstrance and enamel belonging to the church of Santa María.

The ethnographic-archaeological museum has some important examples of the island's first settlers, the Majos. Continuing along this route, you get to Vega de Río Palmas, a place of pilgrimage, with a church with a single nave and four-sided roof, and an important triumphal arch in the main chapel, and this is where the Virgen de la Peña, the island's patron saint, is kept.

Continuing towards Pájara and Tuineje (see South Route), head north to Antigua, an agricultural and craft village, where the Antigua Mill Craft Centre is to be found. This is different from normal windmills as it has three floors, and inside you can see the machinery of this traditional engineering mechanism. The centre has some beautifully tended gardens with indigenous plants, craft shop, a conference room, audiovisuals, and also exhibition halls for paintings and archaeology.
